Worldwide events in the coming years
The 171st General Assembly of the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE), took place in Paris, France, on 28-29 November. According to the Paris Convention of 1928 establishing the BIE, AIPH has been given international responsibility for approving international horticultural exhibitions. Horticultural Expo candidates (A1 Category) go through an approval process with AIPH and then are granted recognition by the BIE member states.

Expo 2023 Doha/Qatar
In an address to the BIE Assembly, HE the Special Envoy of the Minister of Foreign Affairs for Climate Change and Sustainability, and the Commissioner General of Expo 2023 Doha Qatar, Mr Bader Al Dafa spoke about the importance of the Expo. Its theme is “Green Desert, Better Environment” and he emphasised the commitment of this Expo to discussions on climate actionand solutions for desertification.
In order to showcase the international aspect of the Expo, he announced official Invitations have been sent to 120 countries and nine international organisations to participate and share their experiences, best practices and scientific research.
Mr Mohammed Ali Al-Khouri, Secretary General of Expo 2023 Doha presented a progress report. Promotion of the Expo 2023 Doha Qatar took place in the Qatar Pavilion at COP27 and, more recently, at the FIFA Qatar World Cup.
Garden Expo 2023 Suncheon/South Korea
Mr Noh Gwan-gyu, the Mayor of Suncheon city hosting the International Garden Expo 2023, recently met and signed a mutually beneficial cooperation agreement with the Mayor of Busan, Mr Park Hyung-Joon. According to this agreement, Busan City will be represented at Suncheon Expo 2023 with a garden, and both cities will promote each other.
Floralies International 2024 in Nantes/France
The Floralies Internationales is a world-class event that aims to showcase plants in all their diversity and to create a real ornamental spectacle. From 17-26 May 2024, the 13th Floralies Internationales France will take place on the theme "Flower Games" in reference to the Olympic Games that will take place in Paris that year for the first time in 100 years.
The organisers welcome international participation to represent an emblematic game from their country. And this welcome introduction extends to the ornamental site and raw materials.

International Horticultural Expo 2024 Chengdu/China
Chengdu, Sichuan Province, is the largest city in western China, a world-famous gastronomy city and the giant panda's hometown. Three hundred ten pandas are living in Chengdu. From 26 April to 28 October 2024, an international horticultural Expo will take place. Chengdu citizens attach great importance to the Expo 2024 Chengdu.
Expo 2026 Izmir/Turkey
Izmir Metropolitan Municipality hosted an event at COP27 titled ‘Circular Agriculture for Climate Emergency’. It was part of the Local Governments and Municipal Authorities (LGMA) Constituency to the United Nations held in the Multilevel Action Pavilion. Mr Tunç Soyer, the Mayor of Izmir Metropolitan Municipality, gave the introductory presentation on the city’s work towards a circular culture. He said: “We need new principles and approaches to achieve a living strategy in harmony with our planet. Acting alone is never enough. The harmony between our actions is as important as harmony with nature.”Izmir’s action and presentation were in line with the theme of Expo Izmir 2026, “Livingin Harmony”.
Udon Thani International Horticultural Expo 2026 in Thailand
Udon Thani 2026 will focus on the sustainable co-existence between humans, water and plants. The theme 'Diversity of Life: Connecting People, Water and Plants for sustainable living' will examine how everything intertwines.The host city and the Thai government are working hand in hand to develop the masterplan for the Expo Site with more sustainability in mind. The committee plan to create an immersive experience for visitors and participants for the Udon Thani Expo 2026 and create sustainable solutions in the surrounding environment for the local people.
Expo 2027 Yokohama/Japan
On November 28, 2022, Expo 2027 Yokohama was granted the BIE recognition in a formal assent ceremony, and the BIE flag was handed to representatives of the Japanese Government and the City of Yokohama. Expo 2027 Yokohama is the 24th A1 Category International Horticultural Exhibition to be recognised by the BIE since 1960.
Mr Masato Komura, the Secretary General of the Japan Association for the International Horticultural Expo 2027,Yokohama, gave a presentation to the General Assembly on the Expo's theme “Scenery of the Future for Happiness”. There were also video messages from Mr Tetsuo Saito, the Minister of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, and Mr Takeharu Yamanaka, the Mayor of Yokohama.
The Mayor spoke about a zero-carbon Yokohama declaration for 2050, and that the Expo will be an opportunity for them to achieve a more sustainable society.
Malatya International Horticultural Expo 2028
AIPH gave its approval for a Category B International Horticultural Exhibition in the city of Malatya, Turkey for 2028. The approval took place at the AIPH 74th AnnualCongress held in Almere, Netherlands, on 27 September 2022 in accordance with the AIPH Regulations for International Horticultural Exhibitions.
