“I Love Green” at IPM 2023
The “Green Associations” together with MESSE ESSEN continued their activities in the promotion of young professionals at the International Plant Fair in Essen this year. On Wednesday, January 25, 2023, it was once again “I Love Green – Training Day” at the Congress Center. Around 300 students from general education schools in grades 8, 9 and 10 came to find out about the careers of gardeners and florists.

Tristan – the “1,000 good reasons gardener”, informed this year as an expert the students and their teachers about the diversity of the different apprenticeship professions. As a YouTube gardener for the image campaign “Flowers - 1000 good reasons” as well as a master horticulturist and plant manager of a production company, he is the ideal expert for this task.
Practice instead of dry theory – in the further course of the event, interested students were able to experience playfully at ten special practical stations, with which one deals in horticulture and floristry. One highlight: various 360° films about horticulture with unusual perspectives on our work. The hands-on stations included “propagating perennials”, a plant quiz, using different shears in the nursery, and more.
“We need more young people to pursue horticultural education or training. For this, we have to continue to promote our horticultural industry and hone our image. With the ‘Training Day’ we have a format that works very well to get new young people interested in us," says Eva Kähler-Theuerkauf, President of the NRW Horticultural Association.
In addition to students, multipliers such as teachers are addressed, who pass on their new knowledge about the versatile and modern horticultural work.
The “Training Day” is organized by the NRW State Horticultural Association, the NRW Garden, Landscape and Sports Ground Construction Association, the Provincial Association of Rhenish Fruit and Vegetable Growers, the Association of German Garden Centers (VDG) and the Federal Association of German Florists. With the support of the NRW Chamber of Agriculture, the Central Horticultural Association (ZVG) and MESSE ESSEN.
