New HBA cut hydrangeas Royal Supreme and Royal Highness in production

Richard, Jeffrey and Stefan Olyerhoek of the Rith Flowers nursery and director Jaap Stelder of breeder HBA raise their glasses to the new cut hydrangeas Royal Supreme and Royal Highness. The family business Rith Flowers from Amstelveen is the first nursery to take the two new HBA cut hydrangeas into production. This event was festively celebrated at the HBA Hydrangea Night that took place during the FlowerTrials week.

Royal Highness is a double-flowered cut hydrangea with an excellent shelf life. The white mopheads turn green during the season.

Royal Supreme has soft colored mopheads and is available in pink and in blue. Semi-classic, the mopheads display a combination of soft pink and soft green flowers.

Rith Flowers started growing cut hydrangeas in 2011. The company is known for supplying top quality hydrangeas. Rith Flowers is growing 24 different varieties of cut hydrangeas. Royal Highness and Royal Supreme are an excellent addition. Jeffrey Olyerhoek: ,,A good, white, double-flowered cut hydrangea doesn’t exist so far, so Royal Highness is unique in this regard. And that soft pink, sweet color from Royal Supreme is just fantastic. That will certainly appeal to the market.”

HBA (Hydrangea Breeders Association) is a partnership between breeding company Agriom from De Kwakel (NL) and the renowned production and selection companies Heuger Gartenbaubetriebe in Glandorf (D) and Kötterheinrich in Lengerich (D). The range includes cut hydrangea (Royal series), pot hydrangea and paniculata (PAN series). For equatorial cultivation areas, HBA develops cut varieties (Tropical series) that give sufficient length without a cold period.
