The WFRS Hall of Fame was established in London in 1968 and recognises exceptional roses through a ballot conducted among its member countries every 3 years. The first rose inducted was the cultivar ‘Peace’ in 1976. Since then, many outstanding roses have been honoured, including David Austin’s Graham Thomas® (Ausmas) in 2009.
Derek Lawrence, Executive Director of the WFRS, commented: “Gertrude Jekyll is an absolute gem and a worthy winner. Healthy, robust growth, with gorgeous pink blooms, which contain an exquisite and heavenly perfume.”
David J.C. Austin, Chairman of David Austin Roses, said: “Gertrude Jekyll’s timeless beauty and fragrance have found a special place in the hearts of rose lovers everywhere, and we are truly honoured it has been named the world’s favourite rose.”
Gertrude Jekyll is the 19th rose to receive this prestigious award, joining a distinguished group of roses that have inspired gardeners around the world for decades. This rose reflects the timeless elegance and natural charm that Gertrude Jekyll herself championed in her gardens.
