Once a year, the editors of the trade magazine DEGA GARTENBAU (Verlag Eugen Ulmer, Stuttgart/Germany) publish a special issue. In particular, it presents an overview of new garden centers and greenhouses in Germany and Europe.

“Present – feel good – save energy” – these trends are currently influencing horticultural sales facilities. The focus is on expansion and modernization, for example to create more sales space or to improve the sales atmosphere of a facility. Brand new projects tend to be the exception.

One focus is currently on optimizing air conditioning, usually in conjunction with the many possibilities for saving energy. Both have a direct influence on the success status of a sales facility. Customers stay much longer in a greenhouse if they are not exposed to climatic extremes. This is immediately reflected in their mood. The length of stay is extended, the shopping basket becomes fuller and sales increase.
The range of varieties of retail greenhouses has increased considerably in the past. Companies in the sector are investing a lot of creativity and innovative ideas in new projects. Ultimately, it is all about a visually attractive appearance and functional design so that plants and people feel equally at home. In addition, an unusual design should help to create clear differentiation from the competition.
