IPM Novelties 2023

These six novelties were awarded

The "Innovations Showcase" in Hall 1A is a good place to get an overview of the innovations of the IPM exhibitors. A total of 63 new products in eight categories from 33 exhibitors are on show. In six of the eight categories, an expert commission awarded prizes for new products. The winners received their certificates from Eva Kähler-Theuerkauf, Chairwoman of the Advisory Board of IPM Essen, and the German Flower Fairy 2022/2023, Regina Haindl.

In Hall 1A, all plants that have taken part in the "IPM Novelty 2023" competition will be exhibited in the "Novelty Showcase" of the Central Horticultural Association (ZVG). For the first time and uniquely, you will also find the novelties in Hall 2. Visitors to the fair will be able to find out about the latest novelties and trends in the plant market for the entire duration of the fair. An audience award will also be presented this year. The winner will be announced on Thursday, 26 January 2023.

Andreas Kientzler, Kientzler Jungpflanzen In the spring-flowering category, a whole series made the running in 2023. The Primula polyantha hybrid POLLYANNA with the varieties "Flame", "Frosty White" and "Sunny Yellow" from Kientzler Jungpflanzen in Gensingen. The series stands out as the first double flowering stem primroses from meristem culture. This means that they are true to variety and also really always double. Full and numerous flower stems guarantee a long flowering period. The flowering period starts as early as mid-February and lasts until May. Their habit looks like a bouquet and should be just the right choice for the premium segment and as a gift. © Schuchrat Kurbanov/MESSE ESSEN

Stefan de Hoog, Anthura In the category "Flowering Houseplant", the award "IPM Novelty 2023" goes to Anthurium andreanum ANTHFYSAN "Delicata" by Anthura from the Netherlands. The almost black-green foliage in combination with the warm red of the flowers makes this anthurium something very special. A noble product that will help to raise its profile in the specialised trade. Graceful, refined and easy to care for. What more could you want? © Schuchrat Kurbanov/MESSE ESSEN

Leo Wim de Kroon, Ornamentex B.V. Pink Bikini, what a name for a green plant. In the category "Green Houseplant", the Philodendron erubescens "Pink Bikini" ® from Ornamantex B.V. in the Netherlands was awarded "IPM Novelty 2023". Flamingorosa intercostal fields and thick red stems are a feast for the eyes and in line with the trend for variegated plants. Young plant hunters will be thrilled if they can get hold of a plant from this variety. An absolute highlight for that jungle feeling. Uncomplicated care rounds off the charm of this novelty. © Schuchrat Kurbanov/MESSE ESSEN

Leen Ruijgrok, Concept Plants B.V A field maple is the winner in the category "Woody Plants". The Acer campestre "Street Pillar" from Concept Plants B.V. in the Netherlands convinced the expert committee and was awarded the title "IPM Novelty 2023". In times of climate change, the field maple is one of the most interesting trees of the future. Above all, it is one of the few Central European climate heroes. The young foliage of the "Street Pillar" is bright green and changes to a deep, dark colour in summer. The columnar growth is recommended for narrow streets, but also for home gardens as a house tree with a climatic character. © Schuchrat Kurbanov/MESSE ESSEN

Tieme van den Haak In the category "Potted Plants", the expert committee chose the Mangave Mad about Mangave ® "Blazing Saddles" by Gootjes-AllPlant B.V. from the Netherlands as "IPM Novelty 2023". This plant meets all current requirements for a climate-sensitive plant. It is heat-tolerant, tolerates intense sunlight and needs hardly any water. It perfectly complements modern architecture and purist gardens. It shines with intense green foliage that appears to have red speckles. A highlight for terrace and garden. © Schuchrat Kurbanov/MESSE ESSEN

Asaf Nir, Nir nursery In the cut flower category, the Chamelaucium "Ever Flowering Wax" won the race. The name says it all about this Australian wax flower from Nir nursery in Israel. Wax flowers have long been a popular choice for florists. The "Ever Flowering Wax" impresses with its almost year-round harvest time. This increases the cultivation value of this drought-tolerant variety, breaks harvest peaks and enables a continuous supply to the trade and thus to the consumer. © Schuchrat Kurbanov/MESSE ESSEN
